Hey everyone.
Following on from an earlier post where I mentioned a modified webcam set up next to a feeder I now have an update.
My good old dad built me a waterproof housing using some off the shelf plumbing supplies and I have now set up an account on Ustream. I'll try to broadcast as much as possible but will have to keep an eye on the bandwidth. The quality isn't great by any means as I'm using an el cheapo webcam right now. If the channel turns out to be interesting at all I will be upgrading to something nicer.
Follow this link - http://ustre.am/KH4V to view the live feed. There will be ads when it starts as I have a free account.
The cam will be moved around the different feeders, table, water dish etc to see most of the frequent visitors. Let me know what you think of the idea and don't forget to bookmark the page to your favourites :o)
Cheers all, Tom
UPDATE - 18 May 2012 - 11:03am: - I've now given up streaming through Ustream to try out private streaming through Yawcam. I may have to work out the kinks as we go along but for now try this address in your web browser http://2.101.104.106:8081/
UPDATE - The cam is going to be off when it starts to get dark as it has no night vision etc so pointless leaving it on. 20:57 17/5/12
Can't wait to have a look!

Glad someone else is excited, haha. As i said, the quality is rather poor but Im planning on modding a better cam soon if this proves to be of interest to people. Tom. :-)
Nice work Tom, as I said can only lead to bigger things - Planet Earth Live next. haha!
Its live right now for most of the day so check it out at some point and see if anything is happening. Cheers, Tom
Looks good Tom, Check out that YawCam I mentioned before, if you have a reasonable net connection, (getting more common these days, it's the upload speed you need to look at, given that your not likely to be needing a huge bandwidth), you can cut out the middle man and stream the image yourself, No Ads, (unless you want to put your own in ;) ), and it's quite simple to set-up
Best regardsNigel

Hi Nigel, I downloaded it and have it on my PC now but I can't figure out how it works and I have no idea where to start with streaming it to the net etc. Any idea what I'm meant to do?
Just tried your link , Tom. Getting this error message.
Unable to connect
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at 2.101.104.106:8081.
Keep trying.

I never cease to be amazed at how much I didn't know I didn't know.
Hi G,
Sorry about that, I'm having issues with port forwarding etc. I've done most of what the instructions say but still having trouble finalising it. I'll work on it now, why can't these things be even easier, haha.
Right, I think i may have finally got it working, try clicking this link - http://2.101.104.106:8081/
Let me know if it's working ok :o)
Yes , you're "live" now. Well done.
Wooohoooo! I'm monitoring the watching IP addresses so I knew someone was watching, haha. I know not much is happening right now, have to keep an eye over the coming days/weeks. Cheers for checking though G :o)
Moved the cam to the mixed seed feeder, lots of activity right now from the local sparrows who are throwing out all the sunflower hearts and eating whatever other seeds are in there.
Well done Tom!! port forwarding can be awkward but you seem to have sorted it nicely :))
