Can't seem to see any of the Damselflies that you guys have caught so well but I was lucky enough to see this 5 Spot Burnet on the only Thistle flower
that was open this morning.They normally fly from July to August - must be the fantastic weather that encouraged it to fly a month early. Haha!
I saw this Meadow Brown down at the 'Ibis' lagoon but it cheekily stayed out of reach in the 'reserved section' behind the wire and the only shot I could get was this one through grass!
Nice Burnet shots John, such a vivid coloured insect. The damsels are obviously more active when it's warmer and sunnier - not much prospect of that soon! Haven't seen many butterflies this year yet, the odd orange tip, comma and peacock but not many and nothing like a clouded yellow or painted lady. we live in hope!
Thanks Dai. I just found out last night that, beautiful as they are, during every stage of their life they are packed with hydrogen cyanide and of course the colour is a warning to potential predators.

Butterflies do seem to be less visible this year so far, probably due to the weather conditions - the warm spell coaxing the hibernators out to breed then the deluge destroying the insects before they could breed :( . Hopefully a warmer spell may allow more to show later in the year, as after last "Summer" numbers are low anyway.
As for dragonflies / damselflies, and other insects, showery weather can be a good time for photography - after the rain the insects tend to come out in a sunny spell but are often less active whilst the sit on plants to "sunbathe" and warm up, to gain energy, the light after rain is often quite good photographically too, having a clarity that is lacking at other times, when haze can be an issue, in prolonged warmer weather.
