Foggy day snaps

  • Plenty to see at the moment with all the Winter migrants but not the best for photography - loads of Lapwing in their swooping flocks and masses of waterfowl and waders of various species  - if only they were within range and there was just a little more sunlight!

Never having seen them previously I am loving the vast numbers of Redwing and Fieldfare. I'm looking forward to better weather to capture a better image but meanwhile here are a couple I took yesterday.

I pulled the car into the little lay-by on the road from Nash College to make a phone call and saw this Buzzard.

    Pied Wagtail at Boat Lane.

Supposedly  our commonest bird but I know plenty of people who have never seen one! These by Boat Lane!

I love the Redwing, one of these days I'll take a photo that does it justice!

  • These are smashing photos John. Lovely to see the Wren and it's a great photo of the Buzzard, a bird I'm very fond of.

  • Thanks very much B.W.  Really kind of you - I've just checked out your Flickr stream and you've got some lovely photos on there with a great range of garden species (I've never seen a Yellow Hammer for example), just one question - what's a 'batter'? :)

  • nice photos of the wren, often heard but not so often seen in the open

  • Thanks for that Jenksnpt!  Very true about the Wren, I thought that staccato alarm call was all they did, then in the Spring  I heard them sing - what a great pair of lungs on such a tiny bird. As you say difficult to catch them in the open - this one was defending its territory and more or less circling the area around me!
