    A lot of action at Northward Hill today with lots of migrant finches and thrushes piling in: fieldfare, redwing, siskin and a flock of 40 redpoll. A flock of 35 golden plover also passed overhead. One unlucky fieldfare fell victim to a merlin hunting in the gloom, no doubt taking advantage of thrushes coming into roost in the scrub.
