This dead elder along the old railway line is covered in yellow liche, making a great contrast witht he stark white of the branches, and showing how life continues even after one individual has died

This is a cracking little pool for dragonflies, and the surrounding grassland was heaving with grasshoppers and crickets. Only problem is, it's not accessible from the footpaths yet

This must be one of the biggest, oldest birch trees I've ever seen. It's located close to the public footpath on the northern edge of the North Warren reedbed.

Ancient apple tree

This is amazing. It's an ancient tree that has been buried beneath the shingle so that only the top remains visible - yet it continues to produce fruit. Our best guess is that used to be an orchard here.
