Just to prove that you can see plenty of wildlife without having to walk too far....I've not had chance to get out around the trail today but still had great views of a kestrel and green woodpecker in the field in front of the visitor centre. The feeders outside are busy with blue, great, coal and marsh tits, loads of blackbirds and robins as well as some of this year's bumper crop of house sparrows.
If you had ventured further, although the water is still frozen and it is quiet in terms of water birds, you could have seen snipe and water rail. Our usual peregrine is still around and sparrowhawk and buzzard also seen. Around the hedgerows and wooded areas fieldfare, bullfinch, treecreeper and goldcrest have all been reported today.
