Black-tailed godwits

There have been lots of black-tailed godwits on the North Brooks this last week or so. This great photo was taken by one of our volunteers, Chris. (Thankss Chris) Perhaps they were upset by the female peregrine who regularly hunts over the reserve before perching in her favourite tree alongside Hanger View.

Lesser spotted woodpecker is great!

This photo of the tiny and elusive lesser spotted woodpecker was taken by one of our visitors Gary Faulkner (well done Gary!). This male has been putting in a regular appearance in Fattengates courtyard, appearing most frequently in the middle of the morning ( around 10.30 am).

Anna’s wonderfully alliterative contribution “Fast falcons and fab fungi” to the Blog on 17^th.Oct. reminded me of last year’s display beside the car park footpath, so am delighted to see we have a similar show this year. The “giants” are the Parasol Mushrooms and here is one measuring 30cm (12ins) in diameter, which I photographed yesterday in tufty grass near the highest point of Cissbury Ring, about 8 miles south-east of Pulborough Brooks
