Reserve Assistant  Lyndsey Record who has been on Ramsey since April tells us about her experiences living and working on the island.....

"I’m sad to say that my five months as Reserve Assistant on Ramsey Island to coming to an end. It has been a very busy time with hundreds of visitors coming over to enjoy the island and endless pots of tea! I have enjoyed every minuet of it.

The highlights of working here for me have been my trips out to Grassholm Island, our third largest Northern Gannet colony in the UK. I have been acting as guide on these trips and not only have I had the opportunity to see thousands of gannets, I have also seen Manx Shearwaters and other Auks at sea and also been lucky enough to see Common Dolphin.

I have also enjoyed learning more about our rarest crow in the UK, the Chough. I have monitored them taking material into their nest sites in April all the way through to seeing their chicks fledge in July.

My time has also been taken up with lambing during April and May, moth trapping, guided walks, sea bird monitoring, butterfly transects and plastic puffins!! I am now looking forward to seeing the Grey seals give birth to their pups on our beaches before I leave.

If it is possible, my time here on Ramsey Island has been made even better and would not have been the same without working with Greg and Lisa who have taught me so much and all the volunteers so a big thank you to everyone!"
