Morning!
I hope you are all well.
It's been bloggerific recently, I've been writing lots, so do keep an eye on here and check back the past few blogs (you don't want to miss anything!)
Anyhoo, a few days ago Vicky (the Assistant Site Manager) found a new species of moth for the reserve! Joan (the Site Manager) and Vicky (the Assistant Site Manager) regularly run the moth traps (they don’t hurt the moths, Joan and Vicky can have a look at them, id and count, and then let them go) to see what is around. Due to this moth trapping we know that we have some of the indicator species that means we have a good quality reed bed.
Vicky found this little beauty:
It's a tree lichen beauty.
The winspan is about 24-30 mm. They are a migrant species and started appearing since about 1991. The moth is usually found in southern Europe, where the larva feeds on lichens growing on trees.
