Whooper swans checking-in

Whooper swans checking-in

Hi everyone,

We don't get lots of whooper swans at Saltholme, but now's the time of year to see them.  Back in November we had a few fleeting glimpses of whooper swans flying south over Saltholme to their favourite wintering spots .  Now that spring is here, they're starting their epic journey back north to their breeding grounds.  What's more, they're stopping off and making the most of Saltholme.  Whooper swans migrate during the night and spend the day resting and refuelling before continuing north.

Here's the whooper check-ins so far...

On Monday there were three.  Just across the road at Dorman's Pool, there were 27 of them.  If you'd to find out more about Dorman's Pool, visit the Teesmouth Bird Club website.

On Tuesday an impressive group of 12 stopped off for the day.

Finally, on Wednesday we had a family of six, made up of two adults and four youngsters.

What will today bring?

Let us know what you spot,

Ben.

  • Missed out on the whoppers but plenty of mutes around. Also glad to see a lot of wigeon and pochards still around.
