Hi everyone,
Those sunglasses aren't just handy for the sun, but for Saltholme's yellow wagtails. They're easily the brightest summer visitors. The first yellow wagtail returned from its winter holiday in Africa on Thursday 7 April and now the reserve's brimming with them. Toby snapped this fantastic picture a few days ago.
Last year we had a lot more breeding yellow wagtails. They did so well thanks to the many damp ponds and ditches that we've got at Saltholme - newly emerged damselflies are a firm favourite on the 'yellow wagtail kids menu'. They also did well thanks to all the grass munching that the Shetland sheep did over the winter. Those new lambs will have their work cut out keeping tip top conditions for yellow wagtails once the autumn is here.
Upload your yellow wagtail pictures to the gallery.
