In the garden it looks like spring has almost sprung.
It was good to see you in the Wildlife Garden yesterday, Rhian. Your photo shows not just our first crocus, but also how fast the snowdrops are growing. In the background, hardly visible, is our first daffodil flower. All the Spring bulbs, with their single flowers, are good food sources for insects that will be on the wing when the weather warms up (soon I hope). A pity that many of our crocuses have vanished, eaten by mice or planted before we had time to break up the heavy clay? We should have had lots of the early, pale purple Crocus tomasinianus, so we may have to replant that species in Autumn. In contrast we will lift and split the snowdrops just as the flowers fade as they are difficult to grow from the dry bulbs sold in Autumn.
A close look at the rest of the plants shows many buds swelling, so we will see more flowers very soon.
