Hi,
Two stunning male garganeys arrived on the reserve on the 9 May where they had been showing well on the fire station field. This week sightings of the two drakes have been a lot more infrequent until 24 May when the reasoning for their elusive nature was explained ... we think. A female Garganey was present right in front of Saltholme Hide with the two drakes acting as her entourage.
The three birds proved popular with visitors and were a great support act for the rare Long-billed dowitcher. The brilliant photographs below were taking by Jona who volunteers with the estate team here at Saltholme.
Cheers,
Adam.
