Hello Everyone!
I haven't been in hibernation...I promise!
I will be here to keep you up to date over the whole Winter- and tell you all the fun and festive things we get up to. As well as this I'm keeping my eyes peeled for new arrivals. You might see some unusual birds, or ones you've never even seen before- and these are our Winter migrants. Birds come from Scandanavia, Russia and all sorts of COLD places, to our less cold UK!
At Thatcham the numbers of Pochard are growing very quickly, and we also have six cormorants who have taken their place on the Common Tern raft while the terns are away sunning themselves in Africa! We also have plenty of Shovelers, which are a beautiful duck to see- big shovel like bill- living up to their name!
So, even though its cold and rainy, it's still wonderful weather for ducks! Other creatures enjoy this weather too....if you come along to the Centre on Saturday 20th November...you might just discover them...SLUGS and SNAILS! You might even meet my two pet giant african land snails if you are brave enough! Plenty of pictures to follow...
