Nesting Flycatchers

Nesting Flycatchers

  • Comments 1

We had planned  to show nesting green woodpeckers today for our final woodpecker watch weekend, but they appear to have fledged the nest site so fortunately we have a very good plan B !.... our star spotted flycatchers, which are using the nest box above the gardener's storage shed. The female is sitting on eggs, they normally have five or six in a clutch and the male is making occasional visits to check all is well. It's been wonderful showing them to visitors, who don't often see this increasingly scarce bird, particuarly at such close quarters when they are busy breeding.Nuthatches appear to have a nest around the Gatehouse as well and two buzzards soared overhead while we were watching the flycatchers.

Pop up over the weekend and you can watch the exciting goings on for yourself!

  • Hi Mark

That is great news even though you have to go from Plan A to Plan B

Plan B is just as interesting with the nesting flycatchers

I have been lucky to see them in Menorca May time and they got up really close and personal as they caught flies close to where we stayed

They are just the endearing little birds

    Regards
