There's a trill in the air...the first waxwings this side of the winter have been seen today. They were found by our warden Andy, amongst a large flock of over 400 fieldfares, many redwings and a couple of mistle thrushes. They were attracted to the rowan trees bursting with berries in the glade along the drive, on the opposite side to the hide.I went from here across to the hide to fill and clean the feeders and had a very nice bonus of three crossbills, a male and two females, drinking from the pools and perching in the spindly birch tree near the feeders. So, birds are on the move again after a relativley quiet spell.

The osprey has now moved on! It was reprted on Monday 27th, but after a hard frost overnight , it was not seen again. I wonder where it is now?
