Damselfly loveheart

The old swimming pool in the gardens is now a whopping big wildlife pond. Take a look during spring and summer for damselflies and dragonflies. These two Large Red Damselflies are mating - the male grasps the female behind her head to hold her in place! Not very romantic.

There are loads of damselflies around the gardens in spring and summer. Don't restrict your search to the pools - they often perch up in the flowerbeds. These two are in the process of mating - the male has grabbed hold of the female with the end of his tail.

Probably the most common damselfly at The Lodge, at least early in the season.
