In a classic of autumn migration this Wheatear was photographed just a few feet from the Snow Bunting on the same day.
The Wheatear is summer migrant, and a pretty late bird heading south for the winter. The short grass and gravel of the car park provided good feeding - I watched it take a sizeable Brown Cricket.
The Snow Bunting on the other hand is a winter visitor from the far north, for him the car park looks like a nice piece of tundra with plenty of small seeds.
So with the miracle of migration we have north meets south in a small car park on the same day!
