Thanks Ray, the nest had some detritus which indicated that it was probably last year's, I would never knowingly go near or interfere with nests or nesting birds, just that my partner found it while

Found this nest, obviously unused, in a hedge about
1
m. above ground - because of its size, thought it must be a Goldcrest, but now not so sure. Any suggestions gratefully received, many thanks

Hello Chris, A Mealy is a Mealy Redpoll, one of three subspecies of Common Redpoll. It's the nominate species of Carduelis flammea, strictly Carduelis flammea flammea, which breeds from Alaska to Newfoundland
