Birds of prey over the hillfort
Mark Brandon
We have a group from the Beds,Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust on a visit to The Lodge today. I took them for a wander over the new heath to show off our heather, which is looking amazing this year. After leaving them to complete the trail, they came back happy after seeing hobbies, ravens and buzzards...

Happy New Year
Mark Brandon
The reserve was exceptionally busy yesterday; bright blue skies and sunshine all the way, although it was blustery and colder than of late. Our bird sightings have been fairly consistent over the Christmas and New Year period. The large flock of around 500 Fieldfares are still feeding on the meadow on...

Winter Wonderland walk.
Mark Brandon
After a really busy day at The Lodge yesterday, we are lighting the bonfire and preparing for this afternoon's Winter Wonderland walk. It's very mild and quite bright today, so not quite the perfect setting for the winter walk, but I'm sure it will be great;it's already fully booked and...

Yesterday, 3 hobbies were seen in the air together,it will...

A whitethroat called and popped up on the bracken, on the trail towards the hillfort this morning, as I took a walk around with Val Thompson, our volunteer co-ordinator.We were doing our regular walk ,checking the reserve is looking at its best, but it's hard to ignore the birds as we go around!...

Nesting Flycatchers
Mark Brandon
We had planned to show nesting green woodpeckers today for our final woodpecker watch weekend, but they appear to have fledged the nest site so fortunately we have a very good plan B !.... our star spotted flycatchers, which are using the nest box above the gardener's storage shed. The female is...

New baby muntjac and birds of prey.
Mark Brandon
At lunchtime today a member of staff rang to say a red kite was floating towards the Gatehouse. I dashed downstairs and rushed outside with the girls in the shop, almost immediatley we spotted the kite soaring high above, with two buzzards close by. They were circling off towards the Lodge. A great start...
