  • Forum post: Baby pigeon.

I was sat by my window yesterday, and a baby pigeon literally fell 'down' my window! The poor little thing can not fly and there are no nests nearby so I can only presume a bird of prey lost his lunch. He spent the night in our house where I made him a nest from a basket and ripped paper...
  • Forum post: Poor Young Magpie :(

My friend and I love cats but right now we could happily strangle one of our neighbour's cats, who keeps coming into our garden to eye up all the birds who come to eat off the feeders we have out for them. We've chased him away countless times but he keeps on returning and sadly we can't...
  • Forum post: Re: injured female chaffinch

sounds like your garden birdies are very lucky to have you as their guardian! The cat sounds like it wants to be a tiger with all the wildlife it catches!

  • Forum post: Keeping Cats Away From Ground Feeder

Hi. I have a good tall bird feeding station on my patio which is used quite a bit by various birds, Im pleased to say. I also recently bought a ground feeder tray for blackbirds, robins, chaffinches, etc to use, but I've found that several cats in the area like to come and eat all the food I put...
  • Forum post: Re: VOTE for your least favourite garden creature!

I have to vote for rats - dirty, smelly and destructive and chew through even the toughest birdfeeder. We have a cat, and yes, he sometimes catches a bird, but he also keeps down the rat and mouse population and discourages the rabbits. I reckon that providing the birds with feeding stations in our...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaPqCMIuEk4 This clip shows that the German media are investigating what appears to be military spraying of chemicals into our skies. This is what I was worried about!!
  • Forum post: Re: CATS!!!

As has previously been mentioned, the UK's estimated 7.2 million cats are known to take millions (up to 55 million!) of birds each year, but from a conservation viewpoint, we need to consider whether this is causing bird populations to decline. The domestic cat takes 15 times more birds than owls...

  • Photo: My cat Billy

This is our latest adoptee, we've called him Billy. He's a tom, maybe 8 years old. We've seen him around for a few years, but turned up this summer, very thin, and moved in. We were a bit worried but he gets on with most of the others and doesn't behave in a tommish way (spraying etc...
  • Photo: Me and Paddy

Paddy was a good rabbit catcher, also a few rats. From an upstairs window we woud see him across the field, crouched down by the hedge waiting to pounce. He used to bring them back and eat them under the caravan we had to live in while we turned the barn into a house. What's that funny smell? ...
  • Photo: My cat Jenny

Jenny is no longer with us (we have more cats buried in the garden than living in the house). She was very pretty, a real chocolate box cat. She lived life at high speed and seemed just to burn herself out. Scanned photo. Same MG in the background as in Leo's pic, but new colour.
  • Forum post: Re: Cat deterents :

In that case, the decision now lies with you - most of the deterrents mentioned above and in the previous forum are likely to put the fox off too - you can try soaking the log pile in lemon juice/chilli paste/vinegar and also pasting the entrances with the same, this is likely to put the cat off, but...

There it was, the most elusive of Kenyan big cats was sat under a giant acacia tree, not 20 metres from me. This spotted beauty sat still as we approached, time stood still. I'm glad I was in the jeep though!
