and finches fed happily on seeds in the clearing in the wood at the nature reserve at Occombe Farm, near Paignton, South Devon. And suddenly, five goldfinches made a stunning sight as a gentle autumn sun picked out their colourful heads.

A sunny afternoon and while walking home I spot movement in the grass at the side of the path. I walk quietly closer and see a little hedgehog. I stepped on to the grass and it came right up to my feet, then ambled passed me! I couldn't stop smiling!

It was a beautiful day and the dragonflies were being particularly skittish...hovering in front of us and darting away playfully.Suddenly one lit upon a stalk of grass to bathe in the late afternoon sun...pure magic !

My second great moment this year is the amount of *** that come to feed on my black sunflower seeds. We have had Great, Blue, Coal and to top it all a couple of Marsh ***. I found this very exciting as its like a food production line system.

On a bright sunny summer day, I enjoyed a sparkling moment when a Starling took a dip in my RSPB birdbath. It made me feel special.

Stopping for lunch by a loch in the Hebrides the first otter I had ever seen was fishing along a row of reeds all the time we were eating, and popping onto the bank to feed. I felt so happy I nearly cried!

Oct 1965. Sun disperses the mist over Formby Point in a fresh East wind. Suddenly from high above excited calls take me back to the East bank at Cley. 9 Bearded - the first for Lancs - literally "out of the blue". A thrill to last a lifetime...
