  • Photo: A Turnstone on the Ramsgate Seawall

This seabird just stood still on the seawall at Ramsgate whilst I took a few pics in December 2011. Thank you TeeJay for the correction.

  • Forum post: Re: OWL IDENTIFICATION

Hi Jessie Yes that definitely looks like a gull with the grey, white and black colouration and that wing shape.
  • Forum post: Re: was it

Hi Kes Check out the link here , how does this compare to the bird you saw?
  • Forum post: Re: Seagull Pigeon Tern

Hi Laurasianz You mention you couldn't find it on the website, did you try the bird identifier , it might be of some help. I can't help think that this sounds more and more like a male sparrowhawk , blue grey plumage, stripey tail, bold nature, orange plumage to the chest, yellow in the...
  • Forum post: Re: By the side of the railway line at Mallaig

On scanning through some of the threads from earlier in the year i came across this from Sandieg, what a choice for a nesting site! Quite how we missed this back in May i'm not sure, hope they were successful! If anyone can beat that for a risky nesting site please share it with us!
  • Forum post: What should I have done in this situation ?

We were waiting at a bus stop in Eastbourne, there were a few young herring gulls about, as they do wandering across the road, this is a bus and taxi only area. One particular young gull was happily exploring while his mother tried to get him off the road. a few bus drivers waited as he moved out...
  • Forum post: Re: Which Gull?

Hi, This is a great mystery photo :)) At first sight it appears to be a Lesser black backed gull - BUT Note the large amount of white on the underside of the Primary tips :) I am swaying towards a Great black back atm. It may well be a three pipe problem as Sherlock Holmes would say :) I shall...
  • Photo: A view from my window.

Hitching a ride! I was staggered the first time I witnessed gulls perched on very tolerant pelicans, but I have since discovered it is quite usual. Still an intriguing sight though.

Stood on the beach at Cley, my tripod vibrating in the wind as I scraped snow from the lens of my scope, jacket hood closed to leave just enough space for my binocular lenses, all to get a view of a single glaucous gull. Realisation: I'm a birder!

Catching that magnificent moment is a joy. This one was at Rouken Glen Park in Glasgow in 2008.

On holiday in Germany during the summer, my mate and I visited the Baltic Sea early in the morning. The sun was coming up and the sea looked fantastic and it felt as if the shot came together all in one go.

The seagull, in this case a black headed gull in winter plumage - much maligned as a scavenger and a pest, but also very beautiful when you stop and look.
