On our last day in Islay we went to the harbour and saw this character. After taking one picture it is almost as if the cheeky bird turned to give me a better profile. Are you looking at me?

Walking along the beach at Culmore, Derry (N.I.), the sun still up. Comorants gathering on the far shore, and a Little Egret, all white, is wading in the Foyle estuary. Thought it was one of the Herons at first, but no, my first sighting of one!!

Sunday 8th feb we spotted 4 birds which we have never seen before sitting on next doors arial in a row, they looked quite comical with a quiff on the back of their heads, but we couldn't make out what they were. They were Bohemian waxwing!

My friendly Robin visits every morning for his fix of meal worms and thistle seeds. He appeared just after I left a handful of fresh food out for him as it was thick frost this morning. I love that he returns every day.

We were walking through a car park near the Thames and my 11 year old daughter yelled, "A Kingfisher!" Sure enough a kingfisher had landed near us. We watched him dive for fish. I was so happy that she had spotted him and knew he was special!

Deep in Mid-Wales I remembered how simple a pleasure just being in nature is. It was the look on my son's face that summed it up.

Sometimes it's the small things in life that make you feel complete, like going for an autumn walk with your favourite person...
