    I wish the RSPB Garden Birdwatch had been today: living in a city I generally get the usual (urban) suspects, but today I have 28 waxwings in my garden, working their way through the remaining haws & hips!

    What an amazing Saturday - I saw 4 red kites circling just above my house. Plus on a neighbours roof I saw a couple of strange starlings. After consulting a birdbook I realised they were Waxwings, what beautiful birds and what a chance sighting!

    We have a Fieldfare in our garden which came with the recent snow. It is feeding on apples which we saved from the apple tree, and scatter in the garden. It is very fond of chasing the blackbirds away!

    Have been feeding the birds in the garden and had this sight of some magnificent Goldfinches on the feeder in the snow,We have had up to twenty five feeding on our feeders at one time.Truly magnificent.

    I am always pointing out bird songs to my non birding golfing partners and was delighted when one of them said to me, "is that a great spotted woodpecker I can hear?" and it was. Success, another golfer who uses her ears as well as her eyes.

    This morning I discovered a rather bedraggled looking red-legged partridge outside my front door (photo attached though a bit fuzzy). Its presence poignantly connected this much maligned town to the adjoining beauty of North Yorkshire

    Stuck in a traffic jam, a buzzard caught my eye as I gazed out of the window. It gradually gained height, but we had plenty of time to watch every lazy but powerful wingbeat as it lolled in the sky above us.
