Some Of The Birds I've Seen Over The Past Week!
Ella
My friend and I have just returned home from a lovely week spent in North Wales. We love going to Porthmadog, Llanberis, Caernarfon and other nearby places, and went to a few places on Anglesey too. During our travels we managed to take a few photos of some of the various birds we spotted. Some in fields...

I wish the birds in my garden were as tame as this!
Ella
Just come back from another visit to London. Whenever I'm there I always try to make time to go to St James' Park to feed the birds and squirrels. I just love it there. The birds are unbelievably tame and come to eat from my hands! Here is a lovely great tit doing just that (my friend Sue...

Thatcham FUN Day!
Lynsey MacFarlane
Yesterday was 'Thatcham Fun Day' in the Broadway, in the Centre of Thatcham. Alongside the Market, there were stalls full of fun things to do and see, and create! Next to the RSPB stand we had Fairtrade and Veolia Recycling, which was wonderful! It was such a lovely, family atmosphere,...

Grey squirrels are not all that popular in the UK, but I have them in the garden and chase them from the bird-feeders. But this afternoon, I saw Dusty a Ragdoll (cat) in my alleyway, transfixed, staring at the wall of the house next door. Then I saw what he was looking at, a grey squirrel stuck, clinging...

Re: Inverness and surrounding Areas
LuckyBustard
Hi Blackbird et al, I'm a regular to the Inverness area, it's often overlooked in favour of the West Coast but there are some real gems in the area. There is also less rain and consequently fewer midges! RSPB have several reserves nearby, most of them quiet and not very well-known, but very...

Saving the Red Squirrels from Pox
Anonymous
Hi there There is an article in Earth News about the Pox. A new scientific breakthough has caused an outcry for a 4 year study of the disease amongst the Reds. http://www.news.bbc.co.uk/earth/hi/earth_news/newsid_8283000/8283736.stm Personally, I have heard that the Red Squirrels are coming...

Early autumn altercation
Jasmo
I have just watched the most extraordinary drama play out on my lawn. I spotted a squirrel while I was eating my breakfast; it was foraging for places to hide nuts and such, and I thought, that's the first squirrel I have seen for ages - it must be nearly Autumn... Anyway when I looked out...

Squirrel poised in a frozen embrace with his own tail, mid-lick. He stopped when he heard. So delicate and terrified that his body pulses. A sleek magician, he undulates into the tree-tops. With a pallid grey flash of a wiry tail, he is gone.

Having moved to London recently as a student, I was missing walking and my dog. So I took a walk on Hampstead Heath, on a beautiful crisp morning, and captured this critter among the remaining autumn leaves.

This was a great moment for my wife and I, it makes us smile every time we see it. I took this still image on my new Fuji camera. It is one of our several regular visiting Squirrels in our front garden. No surprises though, we called this one Hazel.
