Solway - Land of the Midnight Sun
John & Judith Rogers
18th July 2011 Opened the curtains . . . Whoosh! The rain was coming in bucket loads; the light across the estuary was hard and sharp; the wind was definitely in the North West. "Mark my words," I said to Judith, "it's Autumn. We are nearly a month past the Solstice...

A quick update from a sunny island
Wez
Well folks It's all looking almost worryingly good on the island at the moment, but looking at the weather forcast it might be the calm before the storm. We are busy working out the productivity for all species (how many chicks manage to fledge per nest) and provisioning for the terns...

Sunday's "Raptor Watch" again produced the goods with a fantastic display of hunting from a local barn owl..... After several close passes the owl decided to move on and off it went to nearby pastures ... A solitary woodcock flew out of the marsh heading in the same direction ...

A blackbird's rich song - unhurried, melodious - in the evening air unfurls a sense of peace.. .. after the day's work is done which settles in the cool, peach sunset sky.

Everyone had gone home. Just me, the still water, the sunset and the birds. Didn't matter that I had to cycle home in the dark afterwards. It was worth the bumpy ride along the unlit towpath to have watched the sun go down that evening. Magic.
