I think that swans are probably the most elegant of birds and this one was so close to the hide I just couldn't resist takeing a photograph.

Breathless, staring, eyes watering I watched a Mute Swan flying in. On touchdown it pitifully flailed over and over, the lake was frozen. Stabbing at the ice with its bill in anger and disbelief it stood up, it was walking, unhurt, I breathed again.

I love swans!
