I am a member of both BBOWT and the RSPB. In addition to watching the birds at my feeder stations I enjoy gardening for wildlife (involves letting it run a bit wild, which is handy as I have osteo- and rheumatoid arthritis) and  visiting National Trust properties to see how my garden could look with effort. I am a keen but not very good photographer of wildlife, gardens, landscapes and the sky.

Hi Gill

How are you?  How's your RA in this wet weather does it give you jip?.   I do hope you are well.

We had a good few days in the New Forest. Lousy journey there and back due to heavy road works that it took over twice as long to ge there.  Hotel was good.  Didn't have hot water for 2 of the 4 days but it was still a nice place, wouldn't stop me going back. Set right in Lyndhurst just across from the heath there.  You could also take dogs - felt very much left out as we didn't have one.  Food was good too!

Had a chance to take stock of my sad news while we were away and had plenty of opportunity to think and come to terms so it helped me alot.  We walked for miles, set out at 9am after a hearty breakfast and didn't get back til dusk.  I absolutely loved it, it was very peaceful.  I couldn't believe we walked miles without actually seeing anyone.   We went "off piste" so to speak.  Gave Rich a chance to be a boy scout again, he was really happy with his OS map and compass.  (No doubt the locals would be doubled up in belly laughs as I doubt we were more than half a mile from a main road but it kept him happy!)  We saw lots of deer in the forest, pigs on a panage (new word learnt - basically hunting truffles - who knew!)  birds (useless at getting a photo - I tried so hard) - robins gallore! could hear them but just couldn't get a photo of them.  Even heard owls in the latter part of the day but just couldn't pinpoint them.

The colours of the forest are beautiful especially this time of year. The way the light filters through even the darkest parts was beautfiul.  Took loads of photos of "funghi" probably because it didn't move!!!lol - funny really never thought I would get into funghi.

I have now decided to forego the crofter's cottage in the Isle of Sky as my place to live out my days and find a small cottage in the New Forest - Oh I do so love to live in the real world!

Anyhoo, speak to you soon, take care

Kerry, xx

PS - didn't spot a dove - was soooooo happy!

Hi Gill

Thanks for your reply.  This is the first time I have ever joined a forum - what is a pm?Thanks also for the advice on the tripod - I too have trouble with my hands - trembling, a hereditary thing on my dad's side.  So will see what sort of photos will come forth from the New Forest - if I get a collard dove I'll be so cross! and if I get a shaky collard dove I'll be even crosser! {:-)

Speak when we get back, have a good week and keep a watch out for those tits!

Kerry, xx

Hi Gill,

I've not been around much lately, not had the time I'm afraid ! I make jewellery and cards in what little spare time I've got and this time of year's hectic. It's not helped by the fact that I've also got my own website up and running and I'm doing a bit of a roaring trade in handmade slate signs - if you don't think it cheeky of me, please check it out http://happyhippydesigns.webs.com/  I promise to make more of an effort to pop in every couple of days. Take care, Karen x
