I live in northern Lincolnshire close to the Humber bank. Lots of factories, but also lots of wildlife. I'm a member of the RSPB and English Heritage and recently gave up a career in teaching to become the owner of a tea room in a Lincolnshire market town.

Hi Cartimandua

Thank you for your reply.

It sounds like your hubby and I would have a lot in common with the technical background.  I used to do a lot of Old English script many years ago as part of my job - painstaking to do but well worth it for the end result.  You have to have a lot of patience to commit yourself to work of this calabre - and of course dedication to the cause. {smile}

Yes the IKEA Billy Book cases are fabulous and they are robust and will take a lot of knocking about - especially with the amount of moving that we do.  Have you a lot yourself?

I love all types of books other than the Sci Fi not to keen on them. but ghost and creepy stories I luv 'em anyday - the creepier the better. I am glad that your son is the expert for advising you about books to read.  It is great to be a good reader and it is a good support for you in life.  It teaches you all about people, and how to connect with them. My mum have given me food for thought over the years for a good read or two.  The old fashioned tradional books are always associated with English Literature at school.  So either you like them or you hate thme - there is no middle point with them at all.

I took English qualification later on in life, and I had to read the 'Slab boys' as a cause to my final exams.  The Scottish literature (Glasgow) was hard going as it was incomprehendable for me to understand.  Just made the best of the situation at the time - having a non Scottish parentage does not help to understand any Scottish literature. I have an Edinburgh accent and lose my way a whole lot with Scottish communication at the best of times {blush}

The birding on Saturday on fabulous (a great angle in learning all about birds and we all do all of the time) and we saw too many to mention in one sentence - i was over the moon.  The weather was awful to say the least on Sunday, so we decided to go home instead.  Will write a small report tomorrow fro the RSPB Forum as i am tired now.

The operations will go well I am sure, and I will bounce back as I always do as I am that type of person.  Just a strong fighter by nature.  I tend not let the world get me down no matter what is thrown at me, and I fight back for the better.

Speak once more

Best wishes

Hi Cartimandua,

Thanks for the info about the partridges. I have not seen a partridge for a long time and I am  glad that they moved when they saw you car approach as I have been told they can be a bit like pheasants and just freeze when cars go near them. Let me know if you see any more of the buzzard.

Hi Cartimandua,

Thanks for your last reply. The ribs are feeling a litle easier now went to the doc's yesterday and he has given me the ok for light duties at work. I am lucky that the lads I work with are a good bunch and they have taken on the heavier stuff for me.

I had a word with my neighbour with regard to your buzzard and he says it is a distinct possibilty he has heard reports of sightings in that area and he says there are also reports of sightings on the Elsham road which is that area. I will keep my eyes peeled when I am up that way.

hi Cartimandua

Thank you for your reply.  Good to hear from you too.

It is good that you hubby built the technical skills that he has for his current job - like Dave my OH has done in the same way.   A freelance Calligrapher will be a job where he has to be artistic, and precise in what he does to create what he does.  Well done to him, and anything he does means a lot of definate detail. {smile}

Does he paint or draw at all - that usually goes along with anything artisitic?

Yes, the IKEA Billy bookcases, they are a dream to have - solid too.  We have a lot of books relating to work and all sorts. Like you I am avid about my books.  I love classical books like DH Lawrence to Stephen King for non fiction books.  Love spooky books and films great to be scared witless.  Dave is more of a coward with spooky things, and he hates anything to do with ghosts and the likes.  I try to read when I can, so does Dave.

Got an operation or two before i work once more and they are needed over my employment,  Not life threatening, just inconvenient more than anything. {frown}

Yes, the furniture hunting will be fun and we will do some more of it this weekend - on Sunday.  Saturday is caught up in more Bird watching once more in Essex area.

So we will speak once more. and take care

Hi Cartimandua,

Good to hear from you again. I have never seen a Buzzard around these parts in fact the only one I have ever seen was in Wales about three years ago and then it was not close enough to get a decent view.

I have not spent so much time on here in the last week as I cracked a rib at work and to say painfull is an understatemet. I have seen the doctor who prescribed some stong pain killers but it has really put me behind with the things to do list. Luckily my son has been to do the essentials for me and my sister is not that far away if I need anything else done.

I hope to hear from you again and I will keep you posted if I see or hear of anything unusual in the wildlife department.
