    Be surprised at Carsington Water

Yesterday, visitors to Severn Trent Water's Carsington Water were treated to the fantastic sight of an osprey sitting on a dead tree opposite the Wildlife Centre.

Sparrowhawks, kestrels, buzzards and ravens also often call in, and little owls delight everyone by sitting out all day, staring back at us with fierce expressions. Peregrine falcons can be seen regularly patrolling the area, and we even get kingfishers around the pond by the Wildlife Centre through the winter.

With the arrival of autumn, we can now expect large flocks of wintering birds on Carsington Water as migrating wildfowl return from northern Europe and Russia.

Join us on 18 November, when we are holding a special 'Winter Wildfowl Extravaganza' event. With help from our staff and volunteers, get great views of the amazing birds that gather on the reservoir, including; wigeons, pintails, shovelers, gadwalls, tufted ducks, little grebes, and redshank.

With a Wildlife Centre that is heated with floor to ceiling double glazed windows - bad weather will rarely be an excuse to stay at home again!
