How to do the dawn chorus (when you'd rather be in bed)
Does anyone else keep getting woken up at 5am by the birds at the moment? When that feathered alarm clock goes off, it's tempting just to reach for the earplugs and try and snatch back a bit more sleep until the real one goes off. But somewhere deep down we know we're missing one of nature's...

Why getting up early is great
You either love early mornings or you hate 'em. It's a bit of both for me, I think. But Sunday was International Dawn Chorus Day - a great reason to get up early. Trust me, the hardest part is always when the alarm goes off and you think 'Mmmm, I think I'll just close my eyes for five...

This weekend...use your ears
When you next get a second, stick your head out the nearest window (or door!) and listen. If you live near a busy road it might take you a moment to adjust your ears, but listen carefully and you'll hear the beginnings of spring. At the moment, it's mainly an incoherent chatter and twitter...

This weekend... see it's (nearly) spring!
A few weeks back, I suggested you listen (and look out) for birds starting to sing . My tip for this weekend is to look out for other signs of spring . With snowdrops poking their heads up and daffodil leaves breaking free of the soil, there's no doubt that spring is very nearly here. Hooray! ...
