Feeding blue tits
Angela Donnelly
Hi . We put up some nesting boxes a couple of years ago and now it seems that finally blue tits have decided to take advantage of our free lodgings. That's the bed bit ! What do they have for breakfast ? We have feeders but there is nothing in them at the moment. I have been researching on the Internet...

Three become two
Laura Stevens
We only told you about their arrival on Wednesday , but there's some sad news from Cardiff I'm afraid. It seems that the last week of torrential ran and colder temperatures has taken its toll on the peregrine chicks and one of them hasn't made it. Luckily the two remaining chicks are looking...

The latest from Lincoln
Laura Stevens
Getting the nest cam up for the Lincoln peregrines has been far from straight forward as we told you last week , but I'm pleased to announce that the nest cam is now live! You can now keep up with all the action from the nest even if you're not there. And even better - we can now confirm that...

Chicks a-plenty!
Laura Stevens
There's been a bit of a baby boom for our Dates with Nature this week. The three Manchester peregrine chicks were the first to arrive, with the first two chicks making their appearance on 4 May and the third on 6 May. We can't confirm whether the fourth egg has hatched or not, and many people...

Bank Holiday weekend egg watch
Laura Stevens
Last thing on Friday, I posted a quick update to let you know the exciting news that the first Chichester peregrine chick had hatched . Well, chick number 1 was quickly followed by chick number 2, who arrived a short while after. The second egg was only laid an hour after the first, so it's no big...

Breaking news from Chichester

The first egg has hatched! There's three more in the nest so shouldn't be too long before they hatch too. What a cracking start to the weekend! This was the female about to leave the nest yesterday afternoon. Photo by biteyourbum.com

Ask An Expert: Regurgitation
Ben A
Rick asks: "I have heard that the regurgetation of food in the feeding process is triggered by the visual stimulus of the chicks physical features. In other words: it is the actual look of the young that causes the parent bird to regurgetate the food, in effect feeding it. Is this true?" ...

One of this year's osprey chicks from Loch Garten has made some impressive progress and had made it to West Africa already, just two weeks after leaving Scotland! Is it Alba or is it Caledonia? To find out check out the latest post on the Loch Garten osprey diary .

Homesick?

It looks like "blue 80" returned to the nest at Glaslyn after being AWOL for the last 10 days. She appeared on the nest on Thursday morning and was promptly chased off by one of the other chicks. Was "blue 80" just testing out her wings over the last week and a half or do you think...

Airborne at Aberfoyle
Laura Stevens
Both the Aberfoyle osprey chicks have fledged over the last couple of weeks. In fact the youngest chick fledged 48 hours after its older sibling, which is the same amount of time between them hatching too! Both the chicks are busy trying out their new found flying skills, but have been seen coming back...

Newbie - A few questions about feeding garden birds
Louise Vergette-Lynn
HI folks, I was just wondering if anyone knows whether it's okay to put out dried mealworms at the moment - I've noticed the starlings and blackbirds taking them away for chicks, so I was concerned they wouldn't be getting enough water from them. So I've been soaking the mealworms...

Hi, can anyone please advise me? We have four blue tit chicks in our nesting box aged 14 to 16 days old. Both parents have been very attentive, including up until this evening. I suddenly noticed just before 9pm that mum hasn't come in to sit on them for the night. It's now almost an hour later...

A Robin has been feeding our Blue Tit Family...

We have been watching for a couple of weeks a Robin that has been feeding our Blue Tit family nesting in our box on the side of the barn. Every evening they have taken it in turns to feed, with all parties very happy with the arrangement and no aggression. Today two chicks fledged (on a cold and wet...

At last the blue tits have started laying eggs but she hasnt lined the bottom of the nest and the eggs are just sat on the wooden floor. Will the chicks be warm enough. I've put loads of stuff out for her to use to. Even bought a bag of nesting material but she hasn't used it.

These little cuties were seen in Anglesey in the reeds round a duck pond. Dad was nearby diving for food, and mum was in the water next to the nest looking after a fourth chick who had jumped out of the nest.
