could not miss this, more or less on doorstep with 2 others but all a long distance away for small digital camera.
Hi Sooty it must be a great sight to see.
There seems to be a group of four that's touring the country we've even had them up here in Sheffield.

Hi Sooty,
Well spotted, and a nice picture for your records. I've only seen them abroad.
Cheers, Linda.

Hey Sooty, we have only your word that this stork had two legs in order to have a leg in each county :)
Thank you Linda,we had some very good information to help.
Very funny MrsT,it did move between the two county's quite frequently it seems but very accommodating to lots of birders by the way the grass was trodden down in gateway where viewed from.
"... by the way the grass was trodden down in gateway where viewed from" Definately 2 legs then! Had a few reports of a stork in that part of the world a couple of weeks back. Must have been the same one.
Hi Alan, missed your comment, think anyone is lucky to see them in the wild.Funny in the last two weeks have seen birds we never thought we would see and only been to places we often go to except today just went about a four mile detour when we went to nearby village. They are White Stork.Hawaiian Goose and Great White Egret.
Must admit like seeing them while still appreciating our more resident numerous birds such as Wood Pigeon diligently sitting on nest in garden in this foul weather refusing to move even when we fill feeders upin the same bush, have never seen the nest without her on it.that is dedication.
Great sight, Sooty. Which two counties was it in, Somerset and .......?
If they are touring the country, doggie, I suppose they weren't carrying torches by any chance. LOL

A bird does not sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song. (Chinese proverb)
Sooty, Nice sight. Could you send them my way next. They have been in Worcester, Oxford, Wales and Somerset, must have flown over my house to do this route but haven't popped in yet.
Visiting the Cotswold Water Park. Have a look at http://cotswoldwaterpark.wordpress.com/
Add Dorset to the list Bob,will have a word with them after all you sent the Goose my way.
TeeJay,guess you gathered it was Dorset, very funny about the Torch,it had been flooded a lot so would struggle with the Torch, think that and manure spread on field probably brought lots of worms to surface that perhaps is the attraction for them.
Brilliant, Sooty, what a week!
Sooty Hi Alan, missed your comment, think anyone is lucky to see them in the wild.

White storks are are marvellous sight - I count myself lucky because I've seen them a lot in Lithuania. There are nests everywhere over there, but almost none of them are natural sites, i.e. the crowns of trees, because mature trees in good white stork habitat were ripped out during the Soviet collectivisation of farming. Without the traditional fondness of Lithuanian people for storks they would probably not survive. Numbers are in fact growing, and this is because of the decline in use of expensive pesticides since the fall of the Soviet Union.
Over here, in a newly ploughed field you see jackdaws and rooks. Over there you see jackdaws, rooks and white storks! Always brings a smile to my face.
:-)
Seriously thinking about trying harder!
tHi jackdaw, thats nice perhaps we will get them breeding here as several birds previously we thought very unlikely to breed here are now attempting and in some cases successfully.Funny you should say that in Lithuania in the fields you see Jackdaws,Rooks and White Storks as here in the field with these White Storks there were lots of birds mainly hundreds of Gulls but others as well,as it was raining and we were excited by Cranes we did not notice too well the others but the field was covered.
Sooty, You slipped those cranes in quietly. I take it they are still releasing yiungsters.
