In spite of the poor weather forecast my pal and I had a ride over the border to Yorkshire to visit Old Moor RPSB. The constant light rain prevented us from seeing much of the site but what little we did see was very pleasant. Of course we really wanted to see a Bittern so we headed over to the reedbed hides. A couple of Coots and a pair of Great Crested Grebes was all there was on the water and no Reed or Sedge Warblers to be seen in the reeds. After an hour or so we were getting a bit fed up when a Bittern flew across the far side of the lake.
All heavy crops.

Heavy crops or not, another good series of shots Galatas. Certainly seems to have made your trip over the border worthwhile, though I bet you were secretly pleased that Yorkshire wasn't getting all of the sunshine(-:). I have my fingers crossed for Bittern and marsh Harriers on Thursday at Minsmere - I've given up crossing them for good weather, I will just have to take what comes(-:).
Bob, happily retired(-:)

Excellent series of shots - and very pleased you had a good time.
And one day, I'm sure the rain is going to stop....!
Must get down to Old Moor,it is not that far from us up here in N.Yorks but we never seem to make it.

We're looking forward to returning when the weather improves so that we can explore the rest of this huge site. We only managed to see one small corner of it.
These photos will appear on Google Earth eventually.
Good to see you got to photo the Bittern Galatas i didn't have much luck when i visited there at the beginning of the year, as you say it's a massive site and i think you would be pushed to do all the different parts in one day.

I don't go very often but was informed that the Bitterns had bred this year.

Yes , three chicks I believe.
Galatas have you seen this? www.rspb.org.uk/.../we-need-your-help-to-help-our-bitterns.aspx
I had missed that Alan , thanks. Sent my pics in the hope they may be of some use.
I missed this post. Great shots of the Bittern. It's good that they are now breeding in areas other than East Anglia. Old Moor looks like a really good place, unfortunately a long way from me.
