Hi- Ive just joined but wanted to ask others whether they've noticed a very sudden loss of Red Kites swirling around. I think it must be a week since I saw one whereas have had a lot up to then.
Hi sanden welcome to the forum.
What part of the country are you in?
Here in South Yorkshire south east of Sheffield there is supposed to be one knocking about but i haven't seen it yet, so if you have some spare send them over here.
Near Stamford,Lincs,Alan.Weve had lots,as I say, until about a week ago and it suddenly struck me in the last day or two-none. Perhaps theyre on their way to see you!
Do you get them like this lol.
Welcome to the forum,
We very occasionally see them here in Norfolk, though there are more spreading down this way,
there are 30 more released in Cumbria,
Ive only ever seen one so close when driving to work on a back road and came across one munching on some carrion. Lovely to watch them circling regularly over us though.
I just find it really strange that weve gone from several to nil so suddenly. My concern is that they are again being shot or even poisoned.
It could be that the birds are resting up and going through they slow process of moulting when many raptors in our area seen to fly less. They may still be in their breeding areas with young.
Small glimmer of hope-my neighbour spotted one earlier in the week and as you say Seaman could be the moult time
