Pics from today inc a first - Goosander.
bob's_retired_now
What a very grey and cold day today was in Gloucestershire, so I decided to have a drive around various sites in the Forest of Dean. First call was Highnam Woods. Even though the car park has been closed, it is good to see that the feeders around the hide were well stocked. The paths were still very...

A few from today at Slimbridge.
bob's_retired_now
As I didn't make to Slimbridge yesterday, I went today . The weather was pretty grey when I left hom and even greyer there -seemed very cloudy over the other side of the estuary - and it eventually rained quite heavily from time to time. Still they have 8 or so hides with some tree cover on some...

A couple of pictures from today though not much sun!
bob's_retired_now
The sun came out so I took off for a couple of hours. Unfortunately I couldn'y go to my nearest patch because it's a touch too wet underfoot. So I pressed on and went to Highnam Woods RSPB in the hope that I might at least get some shots around the feeders in the sun and have a walk...

Destruction of beautiful wetlands reserve with wonderful and rare birds - we need you to sign our petition to stop it!
HELP SAVE SALGADOS
A recent article written by keen birder Frank McClintock..... You may not have heard but unfortunately, the Portuguese government has just given the go-ahead for development totaling 359 hectares all around Salgados (or Pera Marsh as it's known to some), down in the Algarve, an area just as valuable...

Feeling very lucky..
goosey
At the moment we have Jays hanging around the garden who we believe had a nest earlier in the year, 2 Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers spending a lot of time in the walnut tree, and a cheeky grey heron checking out our fish in the pond daily! Had a great picture of him from my bedroom window but too big to...

bob's_retired_now
Managed to get out this morning as it was blue skies for a while, didn't last too long though(-:) Whitethroat enjoying a bright morning for a change. As I said it didn't last long, the sun seemed to go out(-:). Juvenile Greater Spotted Woodpecker. Honest, it is a...

Pictures from today - in between the rainstorms.
bob's_retired_now
Managed to get out again but there was lots of rain, surprise, surprise. Went to see how far I could get at Coombe Hill Nature reserve - got this far in wellies without too much trouble. The 2 guys that I saw come out of the boardwalk were wearing waders. I didn't fancy doing a tightrope walk...

Pictures from today at Highnam Woods, Gloucester - plus some experimentation with teleconverter.
bob's_retired_now
Its amazing how bad we are ( at least me, or maybe its all men) at reading our Operation Instructions thoroughly enough. I have had my DSLR for a few years now and have always thought I was reasonably up to speed with what it would do. That was, in truth, when i was working full time etc and used the...

Re: greater spotted woodpecker
Woodpecker
Hi drexyl They weren't the same birds then, although I saw a Great Spotted Woodpecker chick and father at Blashford. I have also had dad feeding his chick in my garden but the chick went and landed on the neighbours roof and was too far away to take any pics. p.s. It's Great not Greater...

Woodpecker
Hi Becca Well done for spotting where the Great Spotted Woodpecker nests and for taking some shots of it feeding it's baby.. Hopefully you might be able to see them fledging like they did on the Springwatch programme
