We're about more than just birds (though obviously we like them a lot).

  • Hi,

I am stupidly (!) so excited as I've just seen my very first pair of Redwings in my garden. They appeared yesterday amid the deep snow, and today are taking advantage of the thaw and feeding on the remains of last autumn's fallen apples. As it hardly ever snows/sticks here in the warmer urban/suburban city, I'm guessing the severe cold of this winter is the reason they have appeared in our hedgerow. I live on the west of the city of Cardiff in South Wales, and although there is usually an abundance of all sorts of wildlife here - including one year a ginger badger, snakes, foxes, resident robins and a sparrowhawk which grabs the woodpidgeons out of the tops of the garden trees - I've never seen Redwings before, in over 20 years of living here, hence the daft excitement, and wishing to share this with the community forum here.....   Fantastic!

Just hope I haven't now got 'hooked' on birdwatching!!

Isn't the RSPB interested in keeping a count of these type of birds? After all, they are listed as on their 'Red List' of endangered/declining bird species - does anyone here know how to submit this data?
