  • Hi there

I will be going to Rutland Water for the 'Osprey' Dawn Boat trip this Saturday, (6am) ...with the 'additional' sandwiches that we are looking forward to with relish.  We will be joining a couple of other friends, and I am really looking forward to the big event

We saw the Ospreys last year in flight while out on the boat and in the bird hides - what a sight they where too.

    They are specular birds and they are very addictive to watch - cannot wait no {big smile}

anyone esle considered a trip like this as it is one you will never forget.

    Regards

    Kathy and Dave

  • Been to Rutland many times, but never been on the boat trip, hope you have a fab time and that the weather is kind.

  • Hi Claire

Sorry for the slow reply here, as I have been busy at home

Thank you for your good wishes for our trip to Rutland.  The boat trip is well worth the visit as long as you do not mind arriving at 6am in the morning.  You need to be an early bird in a big way.

We will be arriving at 5.30 am in the morning with a packed lunch – not to forget the egg and bacon sandwiches we get as part of the trip.

We will be meeting our friends at 5.50am in the morning…and after the boat trip…a trip around the reserve will be next and we will make a day of it…not to forget the nesting Ospreys which we will enjoy too.

Pray that the weather is dry too.

    Regards

  • Hi Jenny

Thank you for your post Yes, we had a great time with our 2 Forum friends as planned.

We saw the Ospreys from the boat in flight - though we did not catch the male parent bird fishing at this moment of time – just the luck of the draw…me thinks. The 3 young Ospreys where beautiful to see and they gave us a lot of enjoyment for the whole day we where at Rutland.

There was a lot of activity at Rutland when it came to young juveniles – Goldeneye had a clutch of ducklings, Greylag Geese – goslings, Canada Geese, Shelduck, and so forth

The icing on the cake was the 3 young Ospreys, and the young Kestrels 3/4 youngsters noted form the Visitors Centre itself and from the associated birdhides in the area.

We where lucky to see a small group of Linnets too….and there was a lot of different insects, butterflies and moths which we happily watched, and took photos as we walked around …there was so much to see and observe.

Will post report as soon as I can, while the trip is fresh in my mind

    Regards
