Hi there
I came across this 'recent' article in the local news.
I am pleased that these 'endearing ' little birds are making a 'strong' come back into our countryside. I have often wondered where they had gone, and no-one ever spoke of seeing them much at all.

The issues to so with the countryside, and the intensive farming has lead to this little birds downfall over the years.
There is a high dependancy on the right 'farmland' environment for Cirl Buntings, and that hopefully that will be increased in the future
The RSPB’s new reserve in Labrador Bay in Devon, bought recently especially to provide habitat for Cirl Buntings, visitors in winter have reported seeing flocks of the birds in the car park.
I want to say congratulations to Cath Jeffs, the Cirl Bunting Project Manager for the RSPB for all the hard work that have been done to assist in this little birds remarkable recovery. {thumbs up}
Regards
Kathy and Dave
I have seen them at Wembury. They are super little birds.
Best wishes
Val.

It is really the farmers who have done most to provide these Cirl Buntings with all they need to increase and RSPB the first to acknowledge that they have just really organised the expertise,also really Paignton Zoo who hatched and reared lots of chicks artificially to be released.

Totally agree Sooty, the five farms that I conduct my surveys and studies on have all contributed towards improving the habitat for a number of species. Been a member of the High Level Stewardship maybe an incentive but each farm has a lot of work involved to meet the criteria.
Unfortunately no Cirl Buntings on any thus far, the Tree Sparrow population has grown though. Last year was the best breeding year so far with over 450 pullus recorded. Mortality was also at a record low.
