Hello, I'm new here and this is my first post. When I was a child we watched starlings every evening in Ireland going to roost in their spectacular way. Does anyone know where I can see starlings again, but locally to Northampton?
Thanks in advance ;o))
Cambridge is the nearest on the country file top 5

I am sure someone more local to you will be able to point you to some where closer.

Hi Lilly welcome to the forum
While you wait for replies have a look here at this video www.rspb.org.uk/.../390935.aspx taken in Ireland

As already mentioned Fen Drayton is your nearest one. It's a decent display, I was there only a couple of weeks ago. Get there an hour before it gets darks and watch from the car park.
Thank you Chris and Doggie, it looks like Cambridge is closest.......great!!
Oh that video.....is fantastic. I watched it along with the rest of the Autumnwatch viewers. In a word.......speechless.......
Thanks guys :0))
Lillymoon,it may be worth contacting some local birders as most areas have gatherings of Starlings some more spectacular than others, our local one is only about 5000 birds but well worth watching all the same.

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
I have not seen it myself but there used to be a big starling roost close to the Northampton Town Football stadium at a place called Storton's Pits, its a wildlife trust site I believe so it would be worth getting in touch to see if it is still occurring, as with all wildlife, they don't always turn up on cue so they may have chosen elsewhere, but it's worth looking into!

The murmurations have not got started in Conwy yet but as I drove home yesterday at about 4.30pm, a small group of about thirty whizzed across the road and on down the valley towards the estuary! I'll check with the reserve and see if things have begun to happen!

God gave us two ears and one mouth for a very good reason!
What amazing feedback! Thankyou everyone......Stortons Pits is ideal We shall go there as its only a stones throw from here......I will let you all know if there were any there. I can't wait.
It's a huge site, and takes me ages to find where it is I posted anything. But I'll get the hang of it. My friend and I went to Summer Leys last Wed. and saw flocks of Golden Plovers......Such pretty birds.
I like it here!!!
