  • Like a few others, I was lucky enough to get some free time Saturday to enjoy the glorious weather although I have to say that after about four hours my hands were completely numb and I couldn't press the shutter on the camera - time for the fingerless gloves to reappear before I go out again. As I come to the end of my first year birding, I added four new birds to my list so really pleased. Hopefully, I have got the ID's right. I'm sure someone will be able to put me right on any mistakes.

Kestrel - watching me very carefully...

Robin - kept me company in the car park whilst I eat my lunch.

Shoveler - I only saw the one cruising in amongst the other ducks

Reed Bunting - a small flock were tugging away at the reeds

Meadow Pipit - sitting happily on top of the wild rose - amazing claws!

And last but not least, a pair of Snipe emerged in the fading light - too far away and they stayed in the long grass to get a decent photo.

A good day for me - hope you enjoy the photos.

  • You did have a good day despite the cold. I had about five layers on yesterday.

Cracking photos. I especially like the Kestrel one of my favourite birds of prey and the mipit who posed so well for you. Snipes are tough to see but at least you did. They are masters of camouflage.

  • Thanks TeeJay - I think the storms this week are going to stop any further outings. It's bad enough trying to hold a long lens still on a calm day!
