Some of you will have followed my threads on Pale Male. For those of you who do not know he is possibly the most famous bird in the world. He came to my attention early in 2005 when a there was world outcry when when his nest was removed from a posh residence in Central Park New York. The nest was put back but from then on there was no more chicks.
Then around November 2010 his mate Lola disappeared to be replaced by a new female. This female was in turn replaced by another one later named Lima.
I still did not believe that there was much chance of any chicks. On 22nd May 2011 I logged in to find the amazing news that Pale Male was a dad again. I seriously considered going to New York to see them. That story is related in the thread Pale Male.....The Miracle Has Happened.
Just ten minutes ago I came home to discover that Lima is dead. I feel very shocked and closer to tears than I have been in a long time.
A grim reminder that the grim reaper visits us all.
I must say that Lincon Karim must feel devastated.

Yes so incredibly sad Tiger. I feel quite shocked still at this news. So much elation last year after all the barren years of waiting and hoping.
I too feel it for Lincoln, even more so if Lima's death is found to be due to rat poison.

Sorry, wrong thread (and thanks Tiger!)
More news of Pale Male.
I do hope they carry out a post mortem to determine cause.
I wonder if this is the smoking gun? As I read this the other day I thought of Lola and how rats were implicated in Lola's death. Maybe this is not what it seems!
Rightly or wrongly, still food for thought Tiger.
Lima, may your body rest in peace and your spirit soar. Good journey.
Tiger and Chloe: Such an awful shame. I hope someone determines the cause.

Diane. Thank you. Only recently there was an article about Pale brining Lima a mouse. At the time I thought of how Lola was possibly poisoned by a rat. I hope this is not the smoking gun.
Here is a reminder of Lima, Pale Male and the miracle chicks recorded on June 9 2011.
Tiger thanks for starting this thread. Picked up this sad news from the main blog courtesy of Alan. I am so upset at seeing this beautiful bird lying on the ground and Lincoln's writings finally made me crack and I had a good weep. I hope he can find out what caused her death.

Yes it was huge shock. I think it was because of the wonderful events last years are so many dreary ones. One wonders if there will be any chicks this year. Apparently there are young eligable already trying to woo the newly widowed Pale Male. I really have lost count of how many wives he has had. It must be at least five but could be higher than that. I must count them up soon.
Meanwhile I think that the Pale Male Irregulars is probably the best site for up to date info.
Tiger: I too want to thank you for starting this thread. I have been a silent follower of Pale Male for years and I am devastated at this news. It is even more heartbreaking when we think it may be due to something we humans did!

The thought at the back of my mind is how long can he go on? He is no spring er...hawk now is he?
Have you read Marie Winn's book "Red Tails in Love"? There are quite a few reasonably priced copies on the internet.
There is a fascinating twist developing to this story. At first it was reported that there was a new female. What was not reported was that there is a new male around too. Now is Pale Male about to be evicted from his territory?
That's a turn up for the books isn't it? Watch this space!
