Hi, Please can I ask for some advice? I have just moved into a new apartment in Central London SE1. I am on the 6th floor and have a terrace area with big planters around it. After looking through them I have found a duck nesting in one. I can really see no way of them getting to ground safely as so high up, there is also no ponds or water I can think of in the area. What do you think? Is this OK? Should I just leave them or help them once hatched? Should I feed them? If so what? Would really appreciate some advice as cannot find the correct answers online and worrying about them. Many thx Erica
Hi Erica
It's very common for ducks to nest in the most unsuitable places.
I'm afraid the best advice is just to leave them alone. You can't do more for them than their mother. And they have been known to drop safely from quite high up.
Sometimes people do come to their rescue, as in this You Tube video.

The best advice is to leave them alone, and the mother duck will do what comes naturally.
As Pipit says, this type of situation happens fairly frequently.

Hi Erica, a warm welcome from me also!
Great idea from Richard to film it, I will certainly log in to have a look. I've always been of the opinion of just enjoy it while you can as you may not get the opportunity again?
