Duck on 2nd floor window ledge.

Answered (not verified) This question has suggested answer(s)

hello

yesterday evening we noticed that a duck was sitting in the window box on the ledge of our building. we live on the second floor, so we are worried that as she seems to sitting on eggs, this is too high up for her to be nesting.

we were just wondering if this duck is actually much cleverer than us and has a sly plan for getting the ducklings down safe when they hatch, or if we need to get someone to help her out?

Any thoughts?

Thanks

xx

  • No the duck isn't cleverer than you. She found a nice safe nest area away from predators without any future planning :) They do nest in the most awkward places. She will not be able to get them to safety alone She will fly to the ground and ask them to jump off and follow her.

Someone else has a similar problem here : http://www.rspb.org.uk/community/forums/p/43218/283875.aspx#283875  and I suggested she contacts a locla wildlife rescue centre for advice.

    Hi Sarah

ah, im glad i checked then! well i  read that post and I live in an Edinburgh tenement and Im wondering if Lainey is maybe our neighbour, that may be too much of coincence but I will check tonight. If so we can think of something together! If not, I will look into what local orgs can help - thanks very much for replying to quickly!

  • If you are able to reach the nest when the young are ready to fledge you could take them down to her, if not :0(

Happens all the time. They often have to be helped to safety or they are doomed too soon.
