I was watching a TV programme this morning. There was an article about the subject of Corncrakes.
There are breeding programmes going on in England at the moment. Birds are bred in captivity and released in secret locations ie Cambridgeshire
How successful are these breeding programmes at the moment?

omg, brings back memories of the Hebrides. the sound of the corncrakes keeping you awake at night. and the standing watching and waiting thinking there bound to appear before us at any minute and still standing watching and waiting lol . They did eventually oblige, if fleetingly. Brilliant

Interesting to hear what you have said here. The area you mentioned is the area that the Corncrakes like - limited disturbance at all times How are the Corncrakes now do you think in the Hebrides? They have the most amazing call and they never tire of repeating themselves at all
This was the programme that I watched this morning called Animal 24:7 this morning 9.15-10am on BBC 1.
It had an article about Corn Crakes being born and raised in captivity at Wipesnade Zoo.
Then they where released into the Cambridgeshire.area once more. They are so rare now it is a growing concern for their welfare now
So interesting to see how these birds do in the wild - in the near future

In 2008, 14 male corncrakes were recorded calling in the Nene washes area, the most since the start of the project in 2002 so it is looking good for the future. This summer there was a full national survey of the corncrake population in the UK, see the link below for further info'.
