I was at Fowlmere Reserve today and was shocked , there are vast areas that should of been wetland but are now dry . Is this down to a draining programme , or is it due to the lack of rainfall this year . If the latter, should we be worried about the ramifications . Losing wetlands such as this , would surely endanger a wide diverse range of wildlife
Do not know about Foulmere but our local reserve is desperate for water and a lot of the reservoirs we visit for birding are very low as well.Of course nature has been through all this many times before and seems to adapt
birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,just enjoy it while you can.
It's the same in the Dearne Valley - I accidently walked past one of the smaller reserves yesterday as I couldn't see any water. Nature does seem to cope, though.

Hi Hitman1, check out the response from Rob Clack on the Fowlmere forum, low water is down to lack of rain...it's been a very dry year in these parts. Fingers crossed we'll get some 'proper' rain this winter, ideally over night!

Hi ,it was the same when we visited the RSPB reserve in Conwy and that was certainly down to lack of rain too.
