  • Hi everyone, I'm new to this but looking forward to talking to like minded folk. One burning question I have is where have all the blue tits gone? This time last year we had a pair of blue tits nesting in our garden bird box. It was lovely to observe the activity and I really missed them when they left. I cleaned the box out in autum and have been waiting since then for there return, well they did during most of March and April they were lots of blue tits in and out of the box as if to check it out ready for nesting. Then a particular pair seemed to show more and more interest and I was convinced they had plans to nest. The problem is for about the last 2 weeks I haven't seen anything of them. Occasionally I have spotted one or two flying around but no birds in the box. I would love to know what could be the reason for this, hope someone could offer me some explanation. Thanks
  • Welcome Bloodnut. No real reason - Bluetits check out lots of different locations but many birdboxes remain empty at any one time, even when they have been used before. Since they produce several broods, I wouldn't give up hope yet of a pair taking up residence.

  • Welcome to the forum Bloodnut hope to hear more from you..

I can't add anything to what GD has already said.

    Regards Alan

  • Blue tits usually only have one brood a year but some years you may find that birds that try early and fail may give it another go a bit later, it's still only just the first few days of May so you never know, things could still happen...
