Hi, could someone tell me please, i have a nest of Blue Tits. Yesterday the mother was in and out all day long. However, this morning i have not seen her once anywhere near the nest and they are really noisy now.
Could they be fledging or could something have happened to the mother? what do i do, help please!!!!
There is not much you can do,they could be about to fledge and the mother is trying to entice them out of the box,i've just spent two days watching the Springwatch Nuthatches fledge and the parents really cut down on the food Friday and hardly fed them yesterday forcing them to leave the box to get fed.Hopefully this is what's happening to the Tits
I think Doggie is right. I suppose chicks will never fledge if the parents carried on taking food to them. I wouldn't worry too much. The parents know best. I would just keep a close eye on the box or you may miss them fledging! It sounds like any time now. Also, listen carefully - you should hear the parents calling the chicks even if you can't see them.
This happened with my coal tits. The day before fledging they were well fed then they cut down feeding the day they left the nest.
thanks for that but have not seen her anywhere near today.
there are not many trees in my back garden and i can;t see her at all. Do they not go to them at all? she was constant yesterday?
have been watching all day and not seen her go there once.
If she is well and safe, she will be watching and listening from some vantage point in between feeding herself.
she could be watching you watching them, this will hold back fledging. Try to hang back a bit and don't worry.if thw worse comes to worse there's nothing you can do.
