Hi Guys & Gals
Has anyone any knowledge of any Red Kite sightings in Lincolnshire?
Only I was convinced that I saw one this afternoon at RAF Coningsby. It was enormous! I haven't seen a wingspan like it!
Anyway, since I got home I've looked at some videos of Red Kites in flight and I'm even more convinced that's what I've seen.
Amazing.

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
Magnificent birds. Let's hope they don't fall victims of their own success.
Cheers, Linda.

Thanks for the link, Alan. Thanks Seaman and yes Linda - I'd definitely go along with that - magnificent!

That's a good point, Linda. In the Thames Valley we are overrun with them and there have already been mutterings in the media that there are too many. Stupid stories like one allegedly trying to grab a small dog and another where they were reported as trying to snatch food from children eating a picnic haven't helped either.

TJ I would have thought the kites would find their own population levels according to available food. This is one of my doubts about feeding stations as they can give an artificial indication of available food.Great places to get close up views of them though and they certainly are great for the general public to get interested in them.
i saw quite a few red kites whilst on the M40

Seaman, I do agree with that and do think it is time they were left unfed and they might spread out more. Having said that I cant blame hillfarmers for getting extra income.
Visiting the Cotswold Water Park. Have a look at http://cotswoldwaterpark.wordpress.com/

I can only agree with that Bob things are hard enough in hill farming nowadays. If I was farming up the dale I would try something similar myself if it brought a bob or two in.
